Track Review: TECHTIC 'Hideout'

As we chaotically plummet head first into the festive season, what we really want, and arguably need is a nice, juicy club track. Melbourne/Naarm's Techtic has delivered it to us with his debut single, 'Hideout'.

This is a neatly wrapped package with 3:21 minutes of non-stop head bobbing goodness from the UK born producer. With a driving, four-on-the-floor beat and a chonky bassline, 'Hideout' will make a worthy addition to your Christmas playlist, being one of those tracks that your neices and nephews will do that cute little kid dance to, and probably your Nan as well.

Inspired by the likes of Dom Dolla, Techtic's 'Hideout' might be defined as Tech House with a nod to Melbourne Bounce / Big Room thrown in for good measure.

While it is his debut release, Techtic has roots in the scene going way back to 2011. Having explored other aliases and genres including Psytrance and Lofi, he only recently emerged with the Techtic brand and sound. He's no stranger to the local Melbourne scene, having supported names including Timmy Trumpet and Andy Murphy.

The Techtic journey started after hearing iconic tracks from The Prodigy, including 'Out of Space' and 'Firestarter', a sentiment I can relate to (check out my Prodigy Tribute Mix here). With the obsession with electronic music firmly inplanted, a young Techtic made his way from the UK to Australia. He quickly embraced Aussie doofs, warehouse raves and the buzzing local scene.

It's not all been smooth sailing for Techtic, after a diagnosis of Tourette Syndrome as a child presented unique challenges. Tourette Syndrome is a neurological condition characterised by repetitive, involuntary movements, twitches or sounds called tics. Facing those challenges head-on, now embraces his diagnosis wholeheartedly, and hopes to share more about it as well as and break down any stigmas attached in order to help others. For Techtic, music serves as a great outlet and way to express himself, even calling his style '"House music with a touch of tourette's".

Overall, 'Hideout' is a lot of fun, and we look forward to hearing what's next to come from Techtic as he embarks on his musical journey - so watch this space!
