This week’s show was stacked with new releases from Aussie artists quite literally dancing to the beat of their own drums. I’ve been putting extra attention into finding female producers to feature, and was stoked to come across Charlies Flat, a dub act led by Kellie Bennett, a multi-instrumentalist from Perth. Another fresh artist to keep an eye on is Monster Machine from Sydney — she’s got a new EP on the way called EXALTED. It shouldn’t feel rare to find women in electronic music, but it still does. Not to diminish the work of the boys, there’s been loads of exceptional talent coming through, and we’re here for it.

Avalon Kane – Live in Adelaide

Avalon Kane’s debut live show is tonight at the Capri Theatre in Adelaide. She’s performing music from Solace and Dissension, paired with an immersive visual set from Conor Mercury and Bryce Kraehenbuehl. If you're local, go support. It’s free, all general admission, and she’s doing something truly different in the scene.

Grab your (free) tickets here.

Finally, if you tuned in, you probably caught me having a little moment about Tomorrowland and the Hottest 100. If you’re sick of recycled hooks and streaming-service sameness, you’re in the right place. If you want new tracks, here they are!

Track of the Week: Somersault - Function EP

Instead of picking one track, we’re shouting out the whole EP. Somersault is arguably one of the best minimal DJs I’ve seen live. He’s got a distinctive sound in his productions, shaped by a strong musical background — he actually started out as a session guitarist. While technology has made it possible for non-musically trained producers to create some amazing stuff, I really think you can hear the difference when someone has musical foundations. We featured Function, Moog in Motion, and Optocon from Somersault’s latest EP Function on the show this week, and every track holds its own.
