Everything Changes

Electronic Music Australia ep.28 aired 11 October 2022

As Julia Jacklin sang in her glorious track ‘to Perth, before the border closes’, “Everything Changes”, and EMA is no exception.

The first MASSIVE change this week is that the show has a BRAND-NEW TIME of 11 pm AEST every Tuesday. I’m super stoked for this timeslot. Athough Friday nights were great, I did feel under some duress to deliver more ‘bangers’ to the Friday night mix. Now don’t get me wrong, I love a banger as much as the next person! But a big part of the ethos behind Electronic Music Australia is to include as many genres of electronic music as I can get my sticky little hands on. This means that the tempo and mood of each episode can vary, and it isn’t always going to be straight up club vibes. So, I’m very much looking forward to keeping you company on Tuesday nights at 11 pm moving forward.

Other changes include the addition of new features each week. This includes the Track of the Week, which is likely going to be a great new or recent release. And the Emerging Artist of the Week puts the spotlight on an Aussie artist who is newer to the scene or has started releasing under a new moniker. It’s like an introductory segment. I would love your feedback on these new segments which you can share with me here or via the EMA socials. For both segments it would be great if you could show your support of the artists by following their socials, buying, and streaming the tracks too, the links are at the end of the blog.

The Throwback and Listeners picks remain, and as always if you would like to request a song – DO IT! Playing what you want to hear is a total vibe. You can dedicate a song to a friend, a family member, a loverrrrr, or tell me about a special memory attached to a track - let’s have some fun with it! Speaking of fun, coming soon - a new MONTHLY GUESTMIX, cannot wait for this, watch this space for upcoming guest mixes.

You might have also noticed some music news content popping up on the EMA website and socials. The idea is to provide further support to Aussie artists and independent record labels and events via this channel. If you would like to be featured in this way, don’t hesitate to get in touch with me.

Track of the Week

Rabbits on Saturn – ‘Night Time Mechanics’. Chaos rules supreme with South London born, Brisbane based Rabbits on Saturn. An underground techno aficionado influenced by darker sounds of DnB, hardcore and old school rave, he’s no stranger to rocking dance floors and delivering an electrifying experience. ‘Night Time Mechanics’ is out now on Queensland based independent record label Frisson Records. Emerging Artist of the Week

Also based in Queensland is this week’s Emerging Artist of the Week, Oli El Grande. Oli El Grande’s style tips its hat to classic 90’s dance and the French Touch movement. He also loves the mood enhancing genres of Trip Hop and Lo-fi. Growing up in the UK, Oli spent time in recording studios from an early age absorbing the approach of some of the music industry's most sought-after session musicians. Oli El Grande’s track ‘Miss Nairobi’ will be released on October 23 as an independent release. Head over to the links below to support Oli El Grande.

The Listener's Pick came from Ryan Vegas, one of my colleagues at Radio Metro who requested the Fluorosound Remix of ODESZA's 'The Last Goodbye'. Fluorosound is an up and coming Sydney-based producer. His club-inspired remix of The Last Goodbye from ODESZA is a banger that I hope you enjoy. Don't forget to SEND ME THOSE REQUESTS NOW!

Catch EMA next Tuesday night at 2300 AEST on 105.7 Radio Metro which you can stream from anywhere in the world, and listen to past episodes on Mixcloud, SoundCloud and YouTube.

Thanks for your support,

Ky Mi x
